Universal Synaptics Renews Distribution Agreement with Barfield, Inc.

Roy, Utah, Oct. 6, 2021 — Universal Synaptics announced today that Barfield, Inc., part of the Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFL KLM E&M) network, has signed a renewal with Universal Synaptics for distributing the Portable Intermittent Fault Detector™ (PIFD™) and Intermittent Fault Detection and Isolation System 2.0™ (IFDIS 2.0™) within the commercial aerospace market.

This extends a successful partnership that began in 2018 and allows Barfield, Inc. to continue to provide Intermittent Fault Detection™ (IFD™) technology for the repair of Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS) and avionics through distribution around the globe.

Universal Synaptics Renews Distribution Agreement with Barfield, Inc.The PIFD is a patented advanced diagnostic instrument that can simultaneously and continuously monitor all unit under test (UUT) circuits individually at the same time, detecting intermittent faults that occur, even as short as 50 nanoseconds (0.00000005 seconds) in duration. In addition to detecting and isolating intermittent faults, the PIFD AutoMap™ Artificial Intelligence feature automatically interrogates and stores the as-configured wiring, eliminating the need for hardcoded test program set software, reducing cost, increasing efficiency and speed to the fleet. The PIFD also detects any open, short, ohmic, impedance, drift, or mis-wiring problem in UUTs.

The IFDIS is used to detect intermittent and other signal path errors or “ghost faults” in nearly any piece of electronic equipment or wiring on any platform.  Identifying faults and eliminating failures during testing saves operators time and significantly reduces maintenance costs.  At the heart of IFD technology is a patented neural network that continuously monitors each electrical path in the UUT chassis.  During testing the IFDIS detects, isolates, and logs any intermittent event that occurs, and then graphically displays the failing circuits to the operator to facilitate quick and efficient repairs.

“Renewing our agreement with Barfield continues to generate industry-leading Intermittent Fault Detection product deliveries to our commercial aviation customers. The Barfield-Universal Synaptics partnership continues to be a powerful combination of dedicated professionals focused on providing advanced diagnostic solutions to reduce intermittent faults / No Fault Found test results in wiring systems and components while increasing aircraft availability” said Ken Anderson, President and CEO of Universal Synaptics.

About Universal Synaptics

Universal Synaptics Corporation is the global leader in detecting and isolating elusive intermittent faults.  For more than 25 years the privately-owned company has focused on solving complex diagnostic and testing problems.  The company’s research into the primary root causes of intermittent / No Fault Found (NFF) problems and the massive digital testing void that exists today with conventional test equipment, led to the development of the patented Intermittent Fault Detector™ (IFD™), hardware neural network and all-lines-all-the-time wiring / circuit analyzer test solutions.

Universal Synaptics was voted the Department of Defense Maintenance Symposium “Great Ideas” Competition Winner in 2010 and 2012.  Recognized as the Mountain West Capital Network Utah 100 list of fastest growing companies in Utah five times, and a “Fast 50” growing company by Utah Business Magazine, Universal Synaptics also secured a spot on the Inc 5000 list of “Fastest Growing Private Companies in the United States” ranking 218 out of 5000 companies.
